The IUD Clinic
The IUD Clinic is passionately led by Dr. Michelle Gerber, a female Family Physician fully dedicated to IUD care and management.
Her Philosophy is to provide women with a safe environment to discuss sensitive issues related to contraception and to provide a center of excellence for the insertion and care of IUDs.
The Mission of the clinic is to:
- Improve IUD awareness
- Offer quick access to IUD placement
- Support women in their first year of IUD use
- Provide expertise for other IUD issues
Dr. Gerber received her MD at University of Cape Town, South Africa in 1985. After moving to Canada, she settled in South Surrey and began practice as a family physician, focusing predominantly on women's health issues, mental health and skin diseases.
As a woman, she finds that she has a deep passion for, and personal connection to, contraceptive health issues faced by women today.
Dr. Gerber completed her initial preceptorship at Willow Woman’s Clinic in 2014. She then went on to complete an "Enhanced skills training in IUC insertion and Management" at Vancouver Island Women's Clinic in 2017 and a further preceptorship program in "Intrauterine Contraception (IUC) Insertion" with SOGC at UBC Student Health Science Clinic in August 2018.
Dr. Gerber is a member of RAICE (www.raice.ca). This is a project, initiated and developed by Canadian Network for Intrauterine Contraception (CNIC), consisting of a working group of health care professionals active in the field of intrauterine contraception and who meet self-identified criteria to qualify as a Rapid Access IUC Centre of Excellence.
Dr. Gerber engages in continued professional development to remain up to date with medical advances in order to provide the best in quality care for her patients and offer the most current management based on national guidelines and recommendations.
